Kansas City in 2009
A Bid For The 67th World Science Fiction Convention
Labor Day Weekend, September 3-7, 2009

Mid American Science Fiction and Fantasy Conventions, Inc.

Kansas City wishes its competitor, Montreal 2009, all the best for a successful World Science Fiction Convention.

See you there!

Mid American Science Fiction and Fantasy Conventions, Inc.

Mid American Science Fiction and Fantasy Conventions, Inc. consists of science fiction fans from the Midwest and throughout the United States, all of whom have experience working local and regional conventions, as well as WorldCon. We were bidding to host a Kansas City WorldCon in 2009.

Experience
    - Nebula Awards Weekend in Kansas City (twice!). Our bid committee members and volunteers helped run the 1997 Nebula Awards Weekend. It went over so well, we did it again in 2002!
    - ConQuesT. Now in its fourth decade, ConQuesT is held every Memorial Day Weekend in Kansas City. ConQuesT is renowned as one of the finest (and most fun) cons in the Midwest.
    - World Horror Convention, April 2003. Our bid committe members and volunteers helped make this a truly terrifyingly memorable event!
    - SMOFCon 24, December 2006. We hosted this con, which focuses on the running of regional, national, and World conventions.
    - MidwestConstruction 2005. We also hosted this con, which focuses on the running of regional conventions in the Midwest.
    - Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame. Members of our committee were also instrumental in the founding of the institution in conjunction with the University of Kansas, prior to its move to the Science Fiction Museum in Seattle.

Our Name
MidAmeriCon was the name of the 34th World Science Fiction Convention (WorldCon), held in Kansas City in 1976. Also known as "Big Mac," the convention was a catalyst for the growth of science fiction fandom in a four-state area. It was the first WorldCon that many current con runners attended. Mid American Conventions was not directly involved in Big Mac, but many MAC members participated in that convention and its heritage.
